Alicia Johnson has emerged the secretary general of the Faculty of Arts Students’ Association (FASA), University of Calabar, Calabar

Johnson emerged unopposed at the delegate election held at the FASA SECRETARIAT, on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 and witnessed by the sub dean, Prof Ene Okon, other faculty lectures and students. While speaking to newsmen after her inauguration, Alicia Johnson stated that her purpose of vying for the prestigious office was borne out of her passion to serve the student community and as the secretary general, she wants to be a strong and purposeful voice for FASALITES and lead passionately. This is as she pledged to be an exemplary and accessible leader.

She further thanked the electoral committee for ensuring a smooth and fair election ‘this was a great election, and I’m glad that our student body was able to independently decide how they’d like to shape FASA for next year!, I hope that my contribution will greatly impact the students for the years to come’ she said

Johnson is a seasoned broadcast journalist with over 6 years experience who has truly developed her interests and grown in her leadership skills. She hopes to take everything she has learned to continue to thrive in this new phase.

Meanwhile, the Faculty of Arts was the first faculty to be established at the University of Calabar during and after it was weaned from the campus of the University of Nsukka in 1975. The Faculty which started with only five academic departments has grown with time to ten academic departments including English and Literary Studies, History and International studies, Modern Languages and Translation Studies, Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, Mass Communication and Digital Media, Music, Religious and Cultural Studies, Theatre, Film and Carnival Studies and Philosophy

The Faculty has graduated thousands of both undergraduate and postgraduate students since its inception and even at that, employers ratings remain commendably high.
