The Anambra State Government has urged voters, particularly supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), to reject former governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi in the 2027 general election.
The government made the call on Monday, October 5, 2026, in a post shared through the official X account managed by the New Media Office of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
In a message titled “A Betrayal Alert for Ndi APGA,” the state government accused Obi of working against APGA since leaving office, alleging that he had sought to weaken the party that brought him to power in Anambra.
The government also claimed that President Bola Tinubu supported APGA at a time when Obi allegedly backed opposition forces against the party.
It urged APGA supporters to remain loyal to the party and resist Obi and the NDC ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The statement comes amid growing political tension between the Soludo administration and Obi as the 2027 election approaches.
Obi, who governed Anambra from 2006 to 2013/2014, is seeking the presidency on the NDC platform. Meanwhile, Soludo and APGA have declared support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. APGA has also indicated that it will not field its own presidential candidate for the election.
The latest exchange is part of a broader political disagreement between Obi and the Anambra State Government, including recent disputes over financial obligations linked to projects implemented during Obi’s administration.
Obi has rejected the government’s claims concerning the alleged debt, maintaining that he did not personally borrow money or issue bonds on behalf of Anambra State while he was governor.
As of the time of filing this report, Obi and his team had not publicly responded to the latest accusation from the Anambra State Government.
