Anthony Edwards Delivers Late Heroics as Timberwolves Rally Past Spurs, 104–103
Anthony Edwards delivered in crunch time, banking in a go-ahead 3-foot runner with 16.8 seconds remaining to lift the Minnesota Timberwolves to a dramatic 104–103 comeback victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night.
Minnesota erased a 19-point deficit in a gritty performance that showcased resilience and timely execution. Edwards finished with 23 points, including the decisive basket that capped a back-and-forth final stretch.
Julius Randle added 15 points and eight rebounds, but his most crucial contribution came on defense. Tasked with guarding Victor Wembanyama in the closing seconds, Randle used his strength to disrupt the Spurs star, forcing a missed 16-foot jumper with 6.6 seconds left.
Wembanyama, who returned to the starting lineup, impressed with 29 points in just 27 minutes, along with seven rebounds and three steals. Despite his impact, the French phenom could not convert late when it mattered most.
The Spurs still had one final chance, but De’Aaron Fox missed a deep 3-point attempt at the buzzer, igniting celebrations among the home crowd.
Minnesota’s comeback was fueled by Donte DiVincenzo, who scored 19 points and provided a vital spark after the Timberwolves trailed by 19 early in the third quarter. Naz Reid also delivered a strong double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Edwards had earlier given Minnesota its first lead at 100–98 with 2:19 remaining, though Harrison Barnes briefly swung momentum back to San Antonio with a clutch 3-pointer.
The Timberwolves overcame a sluggish start, falling behind 16–0 and failing to score until nearly five minutes into the game. Playing without head coach Chris Finch due to illness, assistant Micah Nori stepped in to guide the team through the turnaround.
Now 26–14 on the season, Minnesota continues its strong run, winning 16 of its last 22 games. The victory underscores their growing confidence and ability to close out tight contests against top Western Conference opponents.
