Bandits Allegedly Plant IED on Sokoto Road to Hinder Security Response After Fresh Attack

Suspected bandits are alleged to have planted an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Sabon Birni–Kurawa road in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State following a fresh attack on communities in the area.

Residents of Kurawa and neighbouring villages said the explosive device was discovered after heavily armed bandits reportedly invaded Kurawa village in the early hours of Sunday. According to an eyewitness who requested anonymity for security reasons, dozens of gunmen riding motorcycles stormed the community at about 1:00 a.m., forcing residents to flee for safety.

The source alleged that the IED was planted to delay or prevent security operatives from accessing the affected communities during the attack. The development has heightened fears among residents, who say they have continued to face repeated attacks by armed groups in recent months.

Although the full extent of casualties or property damage has yet to be officially confirmed, residents are calling on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to restore peace and improve security in the area.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the reported attack or the alleged discovery of the explosive device. Investigations are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
