REP. BASSEY AKIBA’S MESSAGE TO MARK WORLD PNEUMONIA DAY 2024
Dear Constituents,
Today, as we observe World Pneumonia Day, we take a moment to reflect on the impact of pneumonia on individuals and communities around the world. Pneumonia remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality, particularly among our most vulnerable populations: young children and the elderly.
This year’s theme, “Every Breath Counts: Stop Pneumonia in its Track,” underscores the importance of each breath and highlights the urgent need to combat pneumonia through timely detection, effective treatment, and preventive measures.
Let us work collaboratively to disseminate information about the signs and symptoms of pneumonia, encouraging individuals to seek medical attention promptly. Each of us can play a role in breaking the chain of infection and safeguarding the health of our communities.
I urge everyone to join me in promoting awareness initiatives and supporting policies that aim to reduce the burden of pneumonia. Together, we can create a healthier future where pneumonia is no longer a leading cause of death.
Rep. Bassey Akiba
Member, representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency and Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services
