The Honorable Member representing Boki 11 constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly and Chief Whip, Rt. Hon. Hillary Ekpang Bisong has in a Thanksgiving mass returned glory to God Almighty at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Agba in Boki Local Government Area.
The thanksgiving mass which was immediately accompanied by the annual Boki new Yam cultural festival according to the Honorable Member was to thank God for the journey thus far in his life, specifically for his victory in the last election and to enable him to fulfill his lifetime dream of building a temple for God.
The August cultural celebration which is critical to the Boki nation took place at St. Ambrose Primary School field.
The New Yam Festival featured competition from different groups including best farmer, best traditional dancer/dance groups, e.g., akata, bekwarra, agud, eruru, etc, most decorated/danced masquerade, e.g., atam, enyia-tu, opam, mbifok, etc.
The event also featured competition among farmers. The farmers competition at the preliminary stage had farmers compete with their yams in each Ward and the best yam farmers represented the various Wards wherein the overall best yam farmer received the best award. Dance groups and individual dancers also went home with various distinguished awards.
The event was attended by dignitaries from all works of life including the Governor of the state, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu who was represented by the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Hon. Peter Odey, his beloved mother and Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, Member representing Boki/Ikom constituency, Hon. Victor Abang(Mature), Hon. Joseph Bassey, Member representing Akpabuyo/Bakassy/Calabar South constituency, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, Hon. Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Mike Odere, traditional rulers, among others.
