CALABAR BOLT DRIVERS WRITE TO BOLT COMPANY: Calabar Bolt Drivers State Out Reasons That Will Lead To Shutting Down Bolt Services In The State From March 2022.

Calabar Bolt Drivers State Out Reasons That Will Lead To Shutting Down Bolt Services In The State From March 2022.

We write officially as the body of Calabar Bolt Drivers to inform you of our unified decision to embark on an industrial action this March, 2022

As your partners, we are in this business in order to make profit and earn decent living, but this has become almost impossible as driving with you has become a source of sorrow and pain to drivers in the face of harsh policies coming from bolt and the general Nigerian economy.

You will agree with us that the cost of purchasing and maintaining a car has doubled in the market in recent years. We are currently in another phase of fuel scarcity and other general commodities inflation. Owners of businesses are making necessary upward review of prices so to be able to stay in business profitably. Bolt and it’s partners in Calabar can’t remain stagnant at the face all this hardship.

Therefore we are asking that;

  1. We can no longer accept that the least fee on a Bolt ride should remain #500. We are demanding that the sum of #800 should be the least on any trip on bolt.
  2. Bolt recently increased their commissions from 15% to 22% without informing drivers. This is unacceptable and we are demanding that the partnering commission fee be reverted to the previous 15%.
  3. The recently introduced driver scoring system that punishes driver when clients arbitrarily cancel ride should not continue. Drivers are never the reason why clients cancel their rides. Any driver accepting a ride does so with the hope of completing the ride for that is why his driver app is turned online.

4 Bolt has continued to block drivers and treat them disdainfully upon receiving complaints from riders without hearing from the second party who is the driver. We are demanding for better welfare and respect for partnering drivers.

  1. Why is there no premium distinctions for drivers in calabar as obtainable in neighboring Uyo and other cities?
  2. Bolt has introduced paid-waiting in calabar but who gets the fee after the waiting for a long time and the clients eventually cancels the ride. And even if the trip happens the driver is not added the money accruing from the waiting time. Why is there no cancellation fee consequences to riders yet in Calabar.

In the face of all this harsh policies and conditions, we have decided that we can’t continue like this and have resolved to mobilize our members across the city of Calabar to shut down their Apps as we await your reaction to the plights of your partners in Calabar.

We are aware that the power of the continuation of this business in Calabar lies in our hands and we won’t accept to remain at the receiving end of this business.

Thank you.
