In a move to support education, the Honourable Commissioner of Finance, Mike Odere, has announced plans to cover tuition fees for high-achieving students in tertiary institutions across Cross River State. This decision follows the recent Cross River Student Leaders Conference held on May 31, 2024, organized by the Office of the Special Assistant Student Affairs to the Governor.
After receiving a report from the Special Assistant on Student Affairs, Commissioner Odere identified eligible students based on their academic performance. Initially, a CGPA cut-off of 4.3 was set by the Hon Commissioner, but he later in good faith and in a bid to widen the net l lowered the threshold to 4.0 to include more benefitiaries.
This initiative aims to alleviate financial burdens on students and their families, fostering academic excellence and supporting the next generation of leaders.
Honourable Mike Odere, who is known for his inclusive approach, emphasized that the beneficiaries\’ local government origins are irrelevant. His primary concern is to build capacity and provide opportunities for underprivileged yet deserving students in Cross River State.
The announcement has received widespread approval, highlighting the state government\’s commitment to education and capacity building. This move is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of many students, supporting their academic and professional futures.
