The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has ordered the permanent forfeiture of five additional properties linked to former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The ruling was delivered on Thursday by James Omotosho, who granted the anti-graft agency’s request after finding that the properties were proceeds of unlawful activities.
The forfeited assets are in addition to properties previously confiscated from the former minister, who was convicted in connection with corruption-related offences involving funds earmarked for Nigeria’s power sector.
The EFCC had urged the court to permanently forfeit the properties to the Federal Government, arguing that investigations established they were acquired with proceeds of crime. The court agreed with the commission’s submissions and ordered that the assets be forfeited.
The latest ruling marks another milestone in the EFCC’s efforts to recover assets allegedly acquired through corrupt practices by public officials.
Saleh Mamman served as Minister of Power between 2019 and 2021 before leaving office. He has been the subject of multiple investigations and court proceedings over the alleged diversion of public funds during his tenure.
The EFCC has maintained that the recovery of illicitly acquired assets is a key component of its anti-corruption campaign aimed at promoting accountability and safeguarding public resources.
