Cross River Newly Appointed Governing Council Chairmen And Principal Officers Of Colleges Of Nursing/Midwifery Sciences Calabar And Obudu

DR. JANET EKPENYONG INAUGURATES NEWLY APPOINTED GOVERNING COUNCIL CHAIRMEN AND PRINCIPAL OFFICERS OF COLLEGES OF NURSING/MIDWIFERY SCIENCES CALABAR AND OBUDU,HARPS ON ACCREDITATION DEADLINE

The newly appointed Cross River State Governing Council Chairmen and Principal Officers of Colleges Of Nursing/Midwifery Sciences Calabar and Obudu were today 1st February 2023, inaugurated by Dr.(Mrs.)Janet Ekpenyong the honourable commissioner for health at the office complex of the Cross River State Ministry Of Health.

The event which witnessed the introduction,familiarization and inauguration of the chairmen of Governing Council,Provosts and Registrars of the two newly approved colleges that previously had The college of Nursing/Midwifery Sciences Itigidi,Abi Local Government Area which holds the prestigious record as the first of it\’s kind to be established in South South Nigeria brought the total number of colleges in Cross River State to three (3).

Speaking at the event the Permanent Secretary Dr.(Mrs.)Pauline Obute who led the introductory session of the new appointees introduced Dr.(Mrs.)Christy Ekpe Essien Esq. as the Chairman Governing Council Calabar and Mrs. Mary Otumonye Esuku Chairman Governing Council Obudu.

Also amongst appointed were Dr.(Mrs.)Victoria Undeshi Provost Nursing/midwifery Sciences Obudu,Mrs.Joy Nelson Obeten Provost Nursing/midwifery Sciences Calabar, Mr. Ojong Umagu Woda Esq. Registrar College of Nursing/midwifery Sciences Sciences Calabar and Mrs. Dorathy Njijie Afu Registrar College of Nursing/midwifery Sciences Obudu, as she extolled and rented her heartfelt gratitude to the honourable commissioner for mediating and facilitating the brisk approval of these appointments by His Excellency Sen. Prof Ben Ayade stating that the unprecedented gestures will be matched with sterling results and achievements. She however reiterated that this development will see these institutions attain the full status of awarding ND/HND degrees in Nursing/midwifery Sciences to Cross Riverians as well as Nigerians seeking to take this career path.

Dr. Ekpenyong in her remarks congratulated the newly appointed officers stating that this recognition is a testament to their hardwork and track records of selfless services and achievements over the years.She also thanked his excellency the governor of Cross River State for swiftly considering the approval of these appointments whilst extolling his unrelenting nature of ensuring that these colleges are fully berthed and gain accreditation status under his administration.

Nevertheless Dr. Ekpenyong carried out the inauguration rites as she charged the officers to work assiduously on ensuring they achieve and meet the accreditation status by the National Board Of Technical Education (NBTE) and Nursing and Midwifery Council Of Nigeria (NMCN) which is billed to close in 2023.

Responding through a vote of thanks Dr.(Mrs.)Victoria A. Undeshi the provost College Of Nursing/midwifery Sciences Obudu thanked the honourable commissioner for her warm reception whilst recanting the efforts of the current administration on achieving this goal. She noted that upon assumption of office by H/E Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade Nursing Schools in the north were closed down and ineffective but were fully revamped and reinvigorated by this administration even to an enviable level of acquiring two additional colleges status to the existing one in Itigidi. She promised that all hands will be on deck to ensure things work effectively to meet the deadline date of gaining full accreditation status.
