Ban on Knockouts, Fireworks, Bangers, Agaba, Nnabor, and Motorcycles in Restricted Areas
The Cross River State Police Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Augustine Grimah, psc, FCAI, has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of the state during the 2024 Yuletide celebrations.
To this end, the Command wishes to remind the public of the total ban on the use of knockouts, fireworks, bangers, Agaba, Nnabor, and the operation of motorcycles in restricted areas. This measure is part of the proactive strategies adopted to prevent security breaches and maintain public safety throughout the festive period.
The ban is in line with the provisions of the law and aims to forestall incidents of fire outbreaks, injuries, public disturbances, and other criminal activities often associated with these items. Residents are therefore advised of the following; directives:
1. Knockouts, fireworks, and bangers are prohibited as they could cause unnecessary panic, distract security operations, and be exploited by criminal elements to perpetrate nefarious activities.
2. The display and use of Agaba and Nnabor are strictly forbidden to avoid disruptions of public order.
3. Motorcycle operatiors are banned in restricted areas, particularly during specific hours, as motorcycles are often used by criminal elements for quick escapes.
The Command assures residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to ensure a peaceful and crime-free Yuletide season. Patrols, intelligence gathering, and surveillance have been intensified, and the Command is working closely with other security agencies to guarantee safety.
Penalties for Violations
The Police will arrest and prosecute any individual or group found violating these directives. Parents and guardians are enjoined to caution their children and wards against engaging in activities that contravene these rules.
Collaboration with the Public
The Command calls on all residents to cooperate with security personnel and promptly report suspicious activities or individuals by calling the following emergency line:
07041777060 or report to the nearest Police Station.
CP Augustine Grimah appeals to all citizens to celebrate responsibly, assuring the public of robust security before, during, and after the festivities. Together, we can ensure a peaceful and joyous season for all.
