Political commentator and blogger, Egwu Daniel, has raised concerns over the growing internal divisions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Biase Local Government Area, warning that Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otumay face a more challenging political contest in the area if urgent reconciliation efforts are not undertaken.
According to Daniel, Governor Otu continues to enjoy significant goodwill among the people of Biase due to his leadership style, ongoing projects, and the implementation of his People First Agenda. However, he argued that the governor’s popularity may not necessarily reflect the strength of the APC’s political structure in the local government.
Governor Otu’s Goodwill Remains Strong
Daniel noted that Governor Otu’s greatest political asset in Biase remains his widespread acceptance among residents rather than the existing party structure.
He stated that while the governor is likely to secure victory in the local government, the journey may not be as smooth as expected due to internal disagreements and unresolved grievances among party stakeholders.
Concerns Over Internal Party Divisions
The blogger expressed concern over what he described as increasing divisions among APC leaders in Biase, particularly between individuals perceived to belong to the “Governor’s camp” and those outside it.
According to him, there has been little visible effort to reconcile aggrieved members following previous party primaries, leading to growing dissatisfaction among party faithful.
He emphasized that politics should focus on reconciliation, inclusion, and bridge-building rather than deepening divisions and personal grievances.
Defections Raise Political Questions
Daniel further pointed to recent defections from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an indication of shifting political dynamics in Biase.
He cited a recent development in Ehom Ward, where over 250 individuals reportedly defected from the APC to the PDP on July 19, 2026.
According to him, Ehom Ward remains one of the highest vote-producing wards in Biase Local Government Area, making the development politically significant.
Call for Unity and Reconciliation
The commentator urged APC leaders in Biase to prioritize unity, engagement, and reconciliation to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
He argued that relying solely on the advantages of incumbency could expose weaknesses within the party’s grassroots structure.
“Strong political structures are built on unity, inclusion, and the confidence of party members, not merely on the benefits of holding political office,” he stated.
Daniel also commended Governor Otu’s leadership style, describing him as a leader who is receptive to criticism and encourages maturity in political engagement.
Political Realignment in Biase?
Observers believe that recent developments in Biase may signal the beginning of a broader political realignment within the local government.
As political activities intensify ahead of future elections, attention is expected to remain on the APC’s ability to address internal concerns and maintain cohesion among its members.
