In a bid to bolster agricultural productivity and ensure year-round sustenance, the management of the Cross River Basin Development Authority officially commenced its 2024 dry season farming initiative today. Engr. Bassey Nkposong the Managing Director, underscored the significance of dry season farming as a positive revolution that guarantees a steady food supply throughout the year.

Addressing the community, Engr. Bassey Nkposong highlighted the manifold advantages of engaging in dry-season farming and urged the local residents to embrace this agricultural tradition. He emphasized that this practice not only enhances food security but also contributes to economic stability within the region.

Expressing concern over the rampant vandalization of government property, the Managing Director condemned such actions, likening them to an ill wind that does nobody any good. He stressed the importance of safeguarding public assets for the benefit of the entire community.

Engr. Nkposong urged farmers to capitalize on the available irrigation facilities during the dry season, citing them as a crucial resource for enhancing agricultural output. He encouraged the farming community to seize this opportunity and actively participate in cultivation during the dry season.

As the Cross River Basin Development Authority takes strides toward fostering sustainable agriculture, the Managing Director’s call for responsible farming practices and the preservation of government assets resonates as a key message for the community to heed. The chairman of the water users association at the Onna project, Mrs. Abasido Nkoro, while commending the authority for the provision of the irrigation facility for the farmers, made a case for the availability of tractors to enable the farmers to maximize their productivity.

A representative of the chiefs of the community and General Secretary Nung Ndem Clan Council (Rev) Etukudo Essien He thanked the authority for choosing the clan for the flag-off of the program and assured that the community will take advantage of the facility and increase the productivity of its farmers.
