Family Seeks Urgent Intervention for 22-Year-Old Franklin Ivara Following Alleged Stray Bullet Incident

Written by calabarGist

The family of Franklin Elemi Ivara, a 22-year-old indigene of Itigidi in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State, has appealed to relevant authorities and the public for urgent intervention to secure life-saving medical treatment after he allegedly sustained a gunshot injury from a stray bullet.

According to an Interim Police Investigation Report dated 27 April 2026, Franklin suffered a severe gunshot wound to his left leg after being struck by a stray bullet allegedly discharged by a soldier during an incident along the Ediba–Itigidi Highway. The police report reportedly concluded that the shooting was accidental and not intentional.

The incident, which occurred on 20 April 2026, allegedly involved personnel of the Nigerian Army (Army Guard Command & Sector Three). The family claims that officers, including Intelligence Officer Abubakar Faruk and Sergeant Aliyu M., assured members of the community that responsibility would be taken for Franklin’s medical treatment after a seized military motorcycle was released.

Although Franklin has received initial medical attention, his family says he remains in severe pain and urgently requires additional surgery to prevent further complications.

He has reportedly been referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki, where an initial deposit of ₦2.5 million has been requested to commence multiple surgical procedures. However, the family says it is unable to raise the required funds, warning that any delay could result in permanent damage to his leg.

The family further noted that the investigating police officer recommended that Franklin be provided with full medical assistance for his treatment.

Consequently, they are calling on the 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, Governor Bassey Otu, the Senior State Security Adviser, the Chairman of Abi Local Government Area, and other relevant authorities to urgently intervene, implement the police recommendation, and ensure that Franklin receives immediate and adequate medical care.

The appeal is supported by an Interim Police Investigation Report dated 27 April 2026 and medical photographs documenting the extent of the injury.
