The Federal Government has intensified the implementation of its National Policy on Anti-Bullying as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate bullying and promote safe, inclusive learning environments in schools across Nigeria.
The renewed commitment was highlighted during a sensitisation workshop organised by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). The initiative aligns with the vision of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, to strengthen school safety, protect students’ well-being and improve the quality of learning nationwide.
Speaking at the workshop, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Aisha Garba, represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary, Hon. Olajuwon Rasaq Akinyemi, urged students to report every form of bullying, stressing that silence only allows the problem to continue.
He encouraged learners to embrace the campaign slogan, “If you see something, say something,” urging victims and witnesses to report incidents without fear of intimidation or retaliation.
According to the Ministry of Education, continuous awareness campaigns and stricter implementation of the National Policy on Anti-Bullying have already led to a reduction in reported bullying cases in schools across the country.
The Federal Government also pledged to strengthen collaboration with education stakeholders, improve reporting channels and ensure the effective enforcement of anti-bullying measures to safeguard learners and create more secure, inclusive and learner-friendly schools in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
