The Forum of Directors of Information, Press and Media of Students’ Union Governments (SUGs) across tertiary institutions in Cross River State has secured the endorsement of the Cross River State Commissioner for Information following a courtesy visit ahead of the maiden Information, Press/PRO & Media Convergence scheduled for the end of July.
The delegation, led by the Convener of the Convergence, Cynthia Chinenye Maduekwe, popularly known as CyanahPEN, visited the Commissioner to formally present the vision of the initiative and seek collaboration for the landmark gathering of campus media professionals.
CyanahPEN is a multiple award-winning campus journalist and communication strategist who previously served as Chief Press Secretary to the first female President and Vice President of the University of Calabar Students’ Union Government, leaving a remarkable legacy in campus information management and public communication.
Speaking during the meeting, the Honourable Commissioner commended the Forum for promoting unity, innovation, and professionalism among student information managers and media practitioners across the state’s higher institutions. He described the forthcoming Convergence as a timely initiative that would strengthen ethical journalism, public relations, media practice, and strategic communication among young communicators.
The Commissioner noted that information remains a vital tool for leadership, public enlightenment, and sustainable development, urging participants to uphold the principles of accuracy, integrity, responsibility, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
He further praised the organisers for creating a platform that will bring together Directors of Information, Public Relations Officers, Media Executives, Campus Journalists, Communication Officers, and other media stakeholders to exchange ideas, build capacity, and foster collaboration.
Expressing confidence in the initiative, the Commissioner officially endorsed the maiden edition of the Information, Press/PRO & Media Convergence. He expressed optimism that the event’s lineup of distinguished speakers, panel discussions, practical workshops, and networking sessions would equip participants with valuable knowledge and skills needed to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape.
In response, members of the Forum expressed appreciation for the Commissioner’s warm reception, words of encouragement, and support for the initiative. They reaffirmed their commitment to organising a successful event that will contribute meaningfully to the advancement of campus journalism, public relations, and strategic communication in Cross River State.
The Information, Press/PRO & Media Convergence is expected to attract student media leaders and communication professionals from tertiary institutions across Cross River State, providing a unique platform for learning, collaboration, and professional development.
