The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on Hospitality, Hon. kusi Albert, recently organized a meeting with lounge owners and key players in the nightlife industry in Calabar. The session aimed to address their challenges and discuss expectations from the Prince Bassey Otu administration in enhancing safety and vibrancy in the hospitality sector.
Hon. Albert emphasized the significant role the nightlife and lounge sectors play in boosting the state’s economy and providing comfort for both visitors and residents. He highlighted the need for a collaborative relationship between nightlife organizers and the government.
During the meeting, Mr. Charles Simon, popularly known as Senge Menge of Lagos, expressed appreciation for the SA’s effort to involve the private sector in entertainment and hospitality governance. He suggested fostering stronger partnerships between private and state entities, where recognized private events might receive grants or sponsorship from the government.
Mr. Bobby, CEO of Tipsy Bar, echoed this sentiment, advocating for unity within the industry and calling for an end to rivalry among business owners.
A representative from Pride Garden Hotel raised concerns about the high tax rates imposed on local businesses, which he argued discourage certain levels of development. Other attendees voiced issues such as frequent shop closures and the “early bed syndrome” in Calabar, which they say negatively affects nightlife businesses, particularly clubs, lounges, and eateries.
Hon. Albert assured participants of actionable outcomes in future meetings, explaining that steps would be implemented promptly to address these issues and foster a supportive environment for growth within the entertainment sector in Cross River State.
