Gunshots Disrupt Students’ Union Week at Rivers University

Students of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Rivers State were thrown into panic on Monday after suspected rival cult groups engaged in a gun battle on the university premises.

The incident occurred at the university’s Rumuolumeni campus in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, leaving students and other members of the university community scrambling for safety.

The suspected clash was reportedly between members of the Vikings and Clansmen confraternities, who were said to be involved in a battle for supremacy.

Although the immediate cause of the confrontation was not immediately known, sources said the incident occurred during the ongoing Students’ Union Government Week activities at the institution.

A video circulating on social media captured the moment students reportedly ran for safety as several gunshots were heard, creating panic within the university environment.

Despite the intensity of the incident, no casualty had been reported as of the time of filing this report.

The development has raised concerns over security on the university campus, particularly during student activities that attract large gatherings.
