💬WHAT IS UNICAL  ONLINE SCREENING ALL ABOUT:
UNICAL POST UTME ONLINE SCREENING Is an online exercise which is carried out by the institution to select candidates for admission using the Grades in their WAEC RESULT AND THEIR JAMB SCORE.
💬WILL UNICAL  ONLINE SCREENING BE CONDUCTED, INSTEAD OF POST UTME?
Just Like It’s been reported earlier, get ready to Online Screening as Post utme will not be conducted this year….
💬WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR MONEY WE USED TO BUY POST-UTME PIN?
incase you think you have wasted money to buy post utme pin, please kindly Change the mindset because the post utme PIN which you used for the Registration will Qualify You to be considered for the screening. If you didn’t register for post utme, then you’re not eligible and won’t be considered for the screening.
💬DO WE NEED T0 COME DOWN TO CALABAR FOR THE SCREENING
The Answer Is “NO” unless there’s need for that then it will be communicated across. However make sure your O’level is been uploaded… this is very sacrosanct… as a matter of concern you can be checking your profile twice a week to make sure it has not been removed. If you haven’t uploaded, you can inbox me, or call me to get it done for you or visit any CBT Centre to get it done…
💬HIGHLIGHT OF THE UNICAL ONLINE SCREENING
Some schools usually screen candidates using the POINT GRADE SYSTEM. UNICAL ADOPTED the online screening in 2016 to offer candidates admission and later used it in 2021 due to Covid-19 to offer candidates admission. As UNICAL is about to screen candidates using only O’level results and JAMB score, then they will use the point grade system. This means that each grade you have in your O’level results represents a certain point. The same thing also applied to your JAMB Score. ~ Okon Offiong ‘De-Catalyst’
However, the truth is that how these points are determined varies
Be that as it may, This year, 60% of candidates’ admission screening score or points will come from your JAMB UTME score while 40% of the score will come from candidates’ O’level results.
In that case, UNICAL will use the point grading system below to determine candidates’ admission screening scores for this year. Let’s see the point grading system that will be use and how to calculate your Admission screening score.
💬POSSIBLE POINT GRADING SYSTEM FOR O’LEVEL, RESULT:
Only the five (5) relevant subjects on your O’level result with the best grades will be used to calculate your screening score. Your O’level result will contribute 40% of your total admission screening score in this order;
Candidates who submits only one result which contains his/her relevant subjects already will be allotted 10 points. The exam could be NECO, WASSCE, November /December WASSCE etc, but any candidate who has two sittings only gets 2 points. So this means that candidates with only one result are at an advantage but only slightly.
O’ Level grades has it’s equivalent grade points as;
A1-8%
B2-7%
B3-6%
C4-5%
C5-4%
C6-3%
D7-2%
E8-1%
F9- The Lord Is Your Muscle
This means that if you have Five (5) straight A1, you have -40%
If you have Five (5) straight B2, you’ve scored -35%
If you have Five (5) straight B3, you’ve scored -30%
If you have Five (5) straight C4, you’ve scored -25%
If you have Five (5) straight C5, you’ve scored -20%
If you have Five (5) straight C6, you’ve scored -15%
UTME scores, where each score range has its equivalent point can be summarised thus,
160-180=10-19 points
180-200=20-23 marks,
200-250=24-33 points,
251-300=34-43,
300-400=44-60 points.
Each category would contain five JAMB results per point added. Eg. a candidate with 180-185 gets 20 points, while a candidate with 186-190 gets 21 points.
With the above explanation, you can easily calculate your possible admission screening score or percentage by adding the percentage of your O’ level result and the percentage of your JAMB Result.
💬LET’S TRY A WORKING EXAMPLE:
OFFIONG Wrote WAEC and had the following grades in this 5 relevant subject.
Mathematics – B2
English-language – A1
Government – C4
Literature – B3
CRK – C5
Offiong Score Will Therefore Be:
Mathematics – 7
English – 8
Government – 5
Literature – 6
CRK – 4
TOTAL ➢ 30
OFFIONG Therefore scored 220 in his jamb score, and from the above explanation, 220 falls under 22%
Now, OFFIONG Jamb Score will be added to his total percentage from his O’Level Alongside his result sitting ( I:e one sitting 10 marks and two sitting 2 marks )
That Is 30+22+10 =65%
But If with two sittings (I:e, using two result) It will Be : 30+22+2 = 54%
💬YOUR CHANCE OF GETTING ADMITTED:
If your score is above 70 marks, then you will stand a higher chance of getting admission
But what we should not overlook here is that admission competition can change if the competition to get admitted from students is much more.
Please note that the competition has been undoing of many prospective candidates.
Most casualties come from courses such as:
Medicine and surgery
Medical laboratory
Dentistry
Radiography
Engineering Courses
Public Administration
Law
Among others.
💬HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT I MEAN
A candidate seeking for admission with an average score of about 60 may not be admitted if he/she applies to a very competitive course, while another candidate who probably scored 50 may get admitted on the merit lists, because this candidate applied to a less competitive course like let’s say .
Physiology
Anatomy
Genetics And Biotechnology
Botany
Tourism And Management
Likewise, this applies to any Science Education courses.
So the lower the number of candidates seeking admission into a particular course, the lower the cut off mark for such department…
💬CONCLUSION :
Having compiled this, I will like to say Congratulations already in advance for coming thus far, you have really tried all your best.
Summit everything to God in prayer. There’s nothing he can’t do and also remember that this is the survival of the fittest ” Who no get Money & Connection Suppose get God”, Be Smart and Wise in all your doings (your admission dream into the prestigious University of Calabar will for sure be a reality).
Keep Following………
Thank you for this beautiful and encouraging analysis, from here I could see that my daughter has made about 73 per cent points.
I will keep in touch with you while also praying she gets admission, she actually applied to study Law in Unical.
Thanks a lot.
Some of Your calculations are wrong here, also how can 180-185 be 20 points and someone with a score of 220 be 22 points, all the same, thank you for the explanation
If jamb score is 60% WAEC score 40%. That’s 💯. Where is the one sitting of 19 marks and 2 sitting of 2 marks coming from?
If JAMB is 60%
WAEC 40%
That’s 💯
Where is the 10 marks for one sitting and 2 marks for 2 sitting coming from?
Thanks
