The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media claiming that it has revised the campaign timetable for the 2027 general elections.
The commission clarified that the viral graphic, which has been widely shared online, did not originate from INEC and should be disregarded by the public.
According to the misleading graphic, campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections would now end on January 15, 2027, instead of January 14, 2027, as stated in the commission’s official timetable.
The false information also claimed that campaigns for governorship and state House of Assembly elections would end on February 5, 2027, rather than February 4, 2027, as originally scheduled by INEC.
Reacting to the development, the electoral commission reaffirmed that no changes have been made to the approved campaign timetable for the 2027 general elections.
INEC urged Nigerians, political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders to rely only on information published through its official communication channels and to ignore unverified reports circulating on social media.
The commission stressed that any amendment to the election timetable or campaign schedule would be officially announced through its verified platforms in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
