✓ NDC Bekwara chapter Says BOO electorate deserves a new direction, improved representation and greater accountability
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Bekwarra Chapter, has issued a formal political notice to Hon. Peter Akpanke, popularly known as “Cracking Rock”, urged the member representing Bekwarra, Obanliku and Obudu (BOO) Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives to prepare to relinquish the mandate at the 2027 general election.
The party chapter said the notice was issued in the interest of accountability, transparency, responsible representation and the legitimate expectations of the people of the BOO Federal Constituency.
In a statement dated 27th August, 2026, the NDC Bekwarra Chapter said the electorate deserves a new direction and improved representation in 2027, maintaining that Hon. Akpanke should prepare to face the democratic verdict of the people rather than expend resources pursuing what it described as an increasingly uncertain bid for a renewed mandate.
The party stated that there were growing concerns and allegations among constituents regarding issues surrounding the handling, facilitation, implementation and management of contracts, constituency projects and other public resources associated with the representation.
According to the NDC Bekwarra Chapter, such matters remain issues of legitimate public interest and deserve clear, transparent and satisfactory explanations from those entrusted with public responsibility.
The statement stressed that, as the elected representative of the BOO Federal Constituency, Hon. Akpanke occupies a position of significant public trust and is therefore expected to remain accountable, transparent, accessible and responsive to the people.
“For the avoidance of doubt, membership of the National Assembly is a public office and not a private entitlement. The authority exercised by an elected representative derives from the mandate of the people and remains subject to lawful public scrutiny and democratic evaluation,” the party said.
The NDC Bekwarra Chapter further maintained that the people of Bekwarra, Obanliku and Obudu possess the constitutional and democratic right to assess the performance of their elected representative and determine, through the ballot box, whether such representation deserves renewal.
Having assessed what it described as prevailing concerns and sentiments across the constituency, the chapter expressed the view that the current representation has fallen short of the standard of effective, transparent and responsive leadership expected by the people.
“It is on this basis that this political Quit Notice is hereby issued,” the statement declared.
The party, however, emphasised that the notice was a political expression within the framework of democratic engagement and was not a call for anything outside the lawful electoral process.
The NDC Bekwarra Chapter also presented Prince KJ Agba as what it described as a credible alternative for the BOO Federal Constituency, citing principles of transparency, effective representation, responsible leadership, accountability and meaningful constituency development.
The chapter said its position was guided by the collective aspiration for a more responsive and people-oriented representation for the constituency.
It called on the electorate across Bekwarra, Obanliku and Obudu to remain peaceful, vigilant and actively engaged in the democratic process as preparations gather momentum towards the 2027 general election.
