The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Army, has recovered 604.5kg of cannabis during a raid on a suspected drug hub in Edo State.
The operation was carried out on August 5, 2026, at Ewe Luleha in Owan West Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Edo State NDLEA Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, the joint operation led to the seizure of 65 bags of dried cannabis, popularly known as skunk.
Ofoyeju disclosed the development in a statement on Monday, August 10, saying the seized substance tested positive for cannabis.
He said the raid targeted a location identified as a notorious drug hub in the community, adding that nine suspects were arrested during the operation.
The NDLEA commander also disclosed that the agency had launched a manhunt for a suspected drug kingpin identified as Sunday, who reportedly escaped during the operation.
He assured that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and bring him to justice.
The latest operation is part of ongoing efforts by the NDLEA and other security agencies to disrupt the cultivation, distribution and trafficking of illicit drugs across Edo State.
The agency has continued to intensify raids on suspected drug hotspots while targeting individuals believed to be involved in the illegal drug trade.
