Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has described the establishment of the Nigerian Army Depot in Amasiri-Edda as a major milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen national security and enhance military operations.
The governor said the new military facility would improve the operational readiness of the Nigerian Army, reinforce security across the South-East, and contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region.
Nwifuru made the remarks while speaking on the significance of the project, noting that the depot would also deliver economic benefits to Ebonyi through increased commercial activities, job creation, infrastructure development, and investment opportunities.
According to him, the presence of the Army depot will not only bolster the nation’s security architecture but also deepen collaboration between the military and host communities in tackling emerging security challenges.
He commended the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army for locating the strategic facility in Ebonyi, describing the decision as a demonstration of confidence in the state’s peaceful environment and strategic importance.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies through policies and partnerships aimed at protecting lives and property while creating an enabling environment for sustainable development.
He expressed optimism that the Nigerian Army Depot, Amasiri-Edda, would become a critical asset in strengthening national defence, promoting regional stability, and accelerating economic growth in Ebonyi State and the wider South-East.
