Peter Obi Visits Air Force Headquarters Over Deadly Aircraft Crash

Written by Mary Bassey

Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate Peter Obi has visited the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) facility in Abuja to sign the condolence register opened following the recent military aircraft crash in Ondo State.

Obi made the visit as a mark of respect for the military personnel and other passengers who lost their lives in the tragic incident involving NAF 931.

The Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft crashed near Igbokoda in Ondo State on Monday, October 5, during a routine mission from Benin City to Lagos. The Air Force later confirmed that 25 people—five crew members and 20 passengers—were on board, with no survivors.

Following the crash, the Nigerian Air Force opened a condolence register at its facility in Abuja to allow government officials, security chiefs and other well-wishers to pay their respects to the deceased personnel.

Speaking after signing the register, Obi expressed sympathy to the Nigerian Air Force and the families, colleagues and loved ones of those who died.

He also reflected on the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies in the course of defending the country and protecting citizens.

Obi prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked God to give their families the strength to cope with the loss.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with authorities expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
