The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has explained the cause of the ongoing power outage affecting several Local Government Areas in Kano State.
KEDCO said the disruption was caused by a transmission capacity deficit following a fault on a 40MVA, 132/33kV power transformer at the 132kV Kwanar-Dangora Transmission Substation.
According to the company, the affected areas include Kura, Garun Malam, Kiru, Karaye, Rogo, Bebeji, Tudun Wada and Doguwa Local Government Areas.
KEDCO said the transformer developed a fault after its primary and secondary circuit breakers tripped following several protection indications, including circuit supervision, an earthing transformer trip, an oil temperature alarm, lockout and side-trip circuit supervision.
The affected transformer has since been isolated, while the matter has been referred to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) maintenance team for necessary repairs.
The company added that efforts are underway to procure and replace the affected earthing transformer to help restore normal electricity supply to the affected communities.
KEDCO said it is working with TCN and other relevant stakeholders to minimise the impact of the transmission constraint and explore alternative supply options while repair works continue.
The electricity distribution company apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the outage and assured residents that normal power supply would be restored once the necessary repairs are completed.
