The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has urged the Federal and State Governments to immediately release the ₦2.53 billion Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) allocation and implement all financial commitments contained in the recently signed 2026 agreement.
The union also called for the prompt payment of outstanding salary arrears and warned against any delay or discrimination in extending the benefits of the agreement to its members across the country’s tertiary institutions.
The demand was contained in a communiqué issued after SSANU’s 55th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, from July 22 to July 24, 2026.
The communiqué, signed by the National President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, described the June 29, 2026, agreement between the Federal Government and the union as a landmark achievement following years of negotiations aimed at improving the welfare of non-teaching university workers.
According to the union, the timely release of the approved funds is essential to ensure the full implementation of the agreement and to sustain industrial harmony within Nigeria’s public universities.
SSANU stressed that all categories of its members should benefit from the agreement without bias, urging both federal and state authorities to honour their commitments in the interest of the education sector.
The union reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement with the government but insisted that the agreements reached must be fully implemented without unnecessary delays to maintain confidence and stability in the nation’s university systems.
