The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no Nigerian child is denied access to quality education because of difficult circumstances.
The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Aisha Garba, stated this during the formal commissioning of the rehabilitated Alternative High School for Girls in Agboju, Lagos State.
Garba said every Nigerian child deserves the opportunity to learn, develop their abilities and fulfil their potential, regardless of their social or economic background.
She noted that challenges such as poverty, displacement, school dropout and other difficult circumstances continue to disrupt the education of many children across the country.
According to her, providing better learning environments is essential to helping vulnerable children remain in school and achieve their educational goals.
The rehabilitation of the Alternative High School for Girls in Agboju is expected to improve the learning environment for students and strengthen access to education for girls who may face barriers to completing their schooling.
Garba stressed the need for continued collaboration among government agencies, communities and other stakeholders to address the factors preventing children from accessing and completing their education.
She maintained that a child’s circumstances should not determine their opportunity to receive quality education and build a better future.
The UBEC intervention also highlights the importance of investing in school infrastructure and creating safe, supportive and inclusive learning environments for children.
The commission said efforts to improve access to education must continue, particularly for children from vulnerable communities who are at greater risk of dropping out of school.
