The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, has inaugurated a newly reconstituted Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee to strengthen discipline and uphold the institution’s standards.
The committee was inaugurated on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Ekaete Enang.
Speaking during the inauguration, Prof. Enang said the selection of members was carefully carried out to ensure balanced representation between the University Management and the various unions.
She explained that the reconstitution was aimed at addressing indiscipline and other forms of misconduct within the institution, urging members to remain conscious of the sensitive nature of their responsibilities.
The Vice-Chancellor, through his representative, advised the committee members to carry out their duties with fairness and a clear conscience.
“Do not be surprised that people will come after you, but let your conscience be devoid of offence,” he said.
Prof. Offiong also commended members of the immediate past committee for their service to the University, noting that they could still be considered for other responsibilities in the future.
He assured the newly inaugurated committee of Management’s support and commitment to providing the necessary resources to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the committee and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Anthony Afam Okiwelu, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for entrusting them with the responsibility.
Prof. Okiwelu urged members to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, stressing the importance of protecting the reputation of the University while carrying out their duties.
Other members of the reconstituted committee are Prof. Abo Nta, Prof. Daniel Ama-Abasi, Dr. Stephen Demort, Dr. Alex Oko, Dr. John Fidelis Inaku, Barr. Jonas Abuo and Barr. Fidelis Akpan.
