Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a woman identified as Aisha Isah after allegedly recovering 266 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition from her during a patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
According to reports, the suspect was intercepted at a toll gate along the busy highway during an operation by NDLEA operatives.
The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday.
However, the NDLEA has yet to reveal where Isah was travelling from, her intended destination or the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the ammunition.
The agency also did not provide details on whether the suspect had been formally charged to court or handed over to another security agency for further investigation.
The arrest was reportedly part of a series of nationwide operations carried out by the NDLEA, which also resulted in the seizure of illicit drugs and the arrest of several suspected drug traffickers.
The circumstances surrounding the possession and intended use of the 266 rounds of ammunition remain unclear, as further details are awaited from the relevant authorities.
