Timileyin Ajayi, a gospel singer and suspected murderer of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Salome Adaidu, has pleaded not guilty to the charges of culpable homicide punishable by death.
The Nasarawa State Police Command arrested Ajayi on January 12, following Adaidu’s death at his residence. He was arraigned before Justice Simeon Aboki at Court 2 in Lafia on Monday.
According to the Officer-in-Charge, Legal, Stanley Nwaforagu, the police have overwhelming evidence and are committed to pursuing justice with a speedy trial. “The court’s decision for an accelerated trial is a welcome development,” he stated.
Ajayi’s defense counsel, Joseph Tukur, affirmed his readiness to ensure a fair legal process, emphasizing that the prosecution must prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.
The court has set a date for the commencement of the hearing as the case continues to draw attention.
