In a move aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness in the distribution of palliatives, the Special Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs to the Cross River State Governor, Hon. Nkoyo Otu, has declared that she distributed palliative parties by parties in consonance with the Governor\’s philosophy of transparency and accountability.
She stated this on 26th July, 2024, while addressing the press in response to the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) divergent view to the methodology of distribution, at the CROSPIL Secretariat, State Housing, Calabar.
During her address, Hon. Nkoyo highlighted the critical importance of transparency in the distribution process.
\”The Governor is deeply committed to ensuring that all political parties, regardless of their size or influence, receive their fair share of palliatives. This is not just about providing relief, but also about reinforcing the values of openness and accountability in governance.\”
She further elaborated Governor Otu\’s vision for Cross River State, italicizing his determination to cultivate a culture of transparency and inclusivity.
\”His Excellency Governor Otu\’s administration is built on the pillars of integrity and service to all. His directive was clear: the distribution of palliatives must be conducted in a way that upholds these principles in line with the \’Season of Sweetness,\” she said.
Contrary to the position of IPAC, the response from political parties across the state has been overwhelmingly positive. Representatives from various political parties have expressed their satisfaction with the process, appreciating the government\’s commitment to fairness and openness.
Mr Emmanuel Ushie, representing the Chairman of the People\’s Redemption Party (PRP), stated. \”This is a commendable effort by the government. It shows that they are serious about supporting everyone, irrespective of political affiliation. Such transparency is crucial for building trust.\”
State chairman of the Boot Party (BT), Elder John O. Onaga, added, \”The fact that the distribution was handed openly and each party was called in to receive their share is an indication of the administration\’s commitment to transparency. Such a gesture builds trust and confidence in the government\’s intentions.\”
Also, Mr Victor Eyo Harrison of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), remarked.
\”My party is in support of the hygienic democratic leadership content of the \’Sweet Prince,\’ the Executive Governor of Cross River State. You (Hon. Nkoyo) are a representative index of that hygienic democratic leadership as demonstrated here today. You have done the needful; you carried out the directive of His Excellency; you are on the right track. God will prosper your tenure and direct you hygienically,\” he concluded.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), Pst Michael Odun, expressed gratitude on behalf of the body, Highlighting the symbolic importance of the gesture.
\”We are here for the palliatives given to us by His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the Executive Governor of Cross River State. We have received our share on behalf of the CNPP and we are very grateful to His Excellency for reaching us at this very critical time.\”
The distribution is a clear example of how governance can be conducted with integrity and transparency. By ensuring that the process was open and fair, the administration through the Special Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs, has set a standard on how relief efforts should be handled.
