Winners of Cross River State Governor Cup 2024
The 2024 Governor Otu Cup, organized by the Cross River State Ministry of Sports under the leadership of Hon. Agnes Atsu and with the full support of Governor Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, saw 32 teams from across all local governments in the state compete in a thrilling three-week sports competition.
The event brought together athletes and sports teams from diverse regions within the state, showcasing not only football, but also fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship among the youth. On December 17, 2024, the eagerly awaited final match took place between Obudu and Bekwara in the football category. The match ended in a 1:1 draw, leading to a penalty shootout, where Bekwara emerged victorious, winning 1-0.
In her remarks, Hon. Agnes Atsu, the Commissioner for Sports, congratulated both teams, commending their skill and determination throughout the tournament. She emphasized that the competition was not just about the trophy, but about nurturing interest and passion for football and sports in general across the state.
Hon. Atsu also highlighted the significant strides made under the leadership of Governor Prince Bassey Edet Otu, citing various achievements that have contributed to the development of sports in the region. She encouraged the youth to view football and other sports as viable avenues for success and personal development.
The Commissioner concluded her speech by expressing gratitude to the event organizers, particularly Mr. Talabi Oke, the Secretary of the Football Association of Cross River State (CRSFA), for his efforts and dedication in making the Governor Otu Cup a resounding success.
