2022 World Pharmacy Day: CRSG Committed To Unite With Pharmacists For A Healthier State
Salvaging the nation’s failing health sector has become a collective bargain which requires the combined efforts of all and sundry to quickly revitalize the sector and meet the global and universal health coverage declaration cum 2023.
A totally incorporated platform involving all professionals in the sector amidst competence check, maintaining standard and strict adherence to “profession’s ” best practice are some of the remedies towards meeting these needs to boost service delivery.
At the 2022 World Phamateautical day celebration, among other lined up activities is the interactive section with the Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency as guest Dr Janet Ekpenyong.
She hampered on the need to immediately end quackerry in the profession through stringent policies and regulations especially in rural areas where illiteracy and poverty is still a concern urging them to adhere to the 2022 theme “Pharmacy united in action for a healthier world”
Citing the United Nations Sustainable Goal number 3 which is enbeaded on paying attention on non-communicable diseases (such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease and mental health) and communicable diseases (for example, HIV, tuberculosis and neglected tropical disease, she said far most important is the relationship between quackerry and some of these global health conditions.
She further highlighted flexible measures adopted by the state to ensure equitable vaccine distribution, noting that, the state will henceforth grant access to reputable pharmacies to commence covid-19 vaccination at no cost implications, following the recent commencement of the USAID Mtap project, in which community pharmacies will commence covid vaccination to decentralise the overdependence on Health facilities as the state work towards achieving herd immunity.
She assured them of Government’s continuous support to the Pharmaceutical society as well as protecting their collective interest and noting that , the state government is interested in the recruitment of pharmacists to man some primary health care centres Especially those operating the social health insurance scheme “Ayade care”
In his response, the Chairman of the Phamateautical society of Nigeria Cross River State chapter, Pharmacist Kenneth Essien assured the DG and the state of a more robust relationship between pharmacists in the state other members of the medical profession.
He acknowledged the commitment of the government to tackling quackerry and other unwholesome practices which had led to permanent damages to organs and systems as well as many preventable deaths.
