The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has called on government at all levels to prioritize the funding of university education in Nigeria. Speaking at the 7th Biennial Conference of the Committee of Pro Chancellors, Prof. Obi emphasized the importance of adequate funding for harnessing the country\’s human capacity for technology development.
According to her, developed nations appropriate adequate funding for the education sector, and university administrators must be prudent and transparent in managing resources to build confidence in government and corporate organizations to invest more in the university system.
The conference, chaired by Sen. Joshua Lidani, featured distinguished speakers including former Executive Secretaries of NUC, Prof. Julius Okojie and Prof. Peter Okebukola, and former Vice Chancellors, Prof. Yakubu Ochefu and Prof. Olufemi Bamiro.
