The Equatorial Guinea Supreme court passes its verdict on Balthazar Egonga Sex Scandal.
Balthazar Egonga, a great-nephew of Equatorial Guinea’s President Teodoro Obiang, has been acquitted by the Supreme Court in a highly publicized case involving compromising videos that surfaced online.
The court dismissed the charges against Egonga, citing a lack of evidence and confirming that all individuals in the videos were consenting adults. Additionally, the ruling highlighted that medical tests cleared Egonga of transmitting any sexually transmitted diseases to those involved.
Balthazar Egonga, the former head of the National Financial Investigation Agency, called the incident a serious invasion of his privacy and announced plans to take legal action against those who leaked the footage.
During the trial, two surprising developments occurred. Several married men, whose wives appeared in the videos, thanked Egonga. They stated that the video exposure uncovered hidden aspects of their marriages, leading some to consider or even pursue divorce.
Although the court dismissed the case, Egonga now faces separate embezzlement allegations.
Authorities arrested him on October 25 for allegedly siphoning substantial state funds into offshore accounts. During his detention at Malabo’s Black Beach Prison, officials seized his phones and computers, which led to the video’s release.
Egonga has not yet addressed the public regarding the embezzlement accusations, raising questions about his future in public service.
