Calabar is set to come alive once again to to host the second edition of its flagship event, of the Calabar Street Free Food Fest, on February 14, 2025 along the street of the capital city.
This humanitarian carnival, which debuted in 2024, aims to fight hunger while promoting community spirit and tourism in Cross River State.

Organizers of the initiative have expressed their determination to make the event a permanent annual feature, following the overwhelming success of the maiden edition. “Last year, we reached hundreds of people in need, bringing smiles to faces and relief to struggling families,” the event initiator; Arikpo L. Omini said. “This year, we’re aiming even higher.”
In 2025, the Fest is expected to grow, with plans to eventually extend the event to a week-long celebration featuring affordable meal options, live performances, and cultural showcases. The initiative also envisions establishing permanent food banks in major towns across Cross River State to address hunger on a larger scale.
As Nigeria grapples with economic challenges, the Street Free Food Initiative’s mission has become even more critical. “This is more than just an event,” Arikpo L. Omini noted. “It’s about creating lasting solutions to food insecurity while fostering unity and showcasing the cultural richness of Cross River State.”
