Air Peace to Face Legal Action — Amb. Dr. Charles Omini, IHRPS Special Envoy

The Special Envoy to West Africa for the International Human Rights Protection Service (IHRPS), Amb. Dr. Charles Omini, has condemned the recent mistreatment of Nigerian passengers by Air Peace airline, describing it as a violation of human rights.

This follows an incident on May 4, 2025, where Air Peace allegedly kept passengers stranded at the Abuja airport from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. before eventually departing for Lagos. Dr. Omini, who paid an unscheduled visit to the airport and surrounding areas, expressed shock at the airline’s lack of consideration for the comfort and rights of its passengers.

Addressing concerned travelers and airport staff, Dr. Omini stated that the International Human Rights Protection Service will not tolerate such acts of negligence and will take legal steps against Air Peace to ensure justice is served.

“This incident is unacceptable. No airline has the right to treat Nigerians or any passenger like this. People were left without proper communication or care for over eight hours, and that is a clear violation of their rights,” Omini declared.

He assured affected passengers that the IHRPS will pursue the matter to a logical conclusion and hold the airline accountable. “This will serve as a strong message to all airlines operating in Nigeria: passengers deserve respect, dignity, and timely service,” he added.

Dr. Omini also emphasized that the IHRPS remains committed to protecting citizens against inhumane treatment and called on airline operators to adopt global best practices in service delivery.
