Utibe-Abasi Orok Bassey-Duke, Special Assistant to the Governor on Gender Mainstreaming, proudly represented Cross River State, Nigeria, at the Global Alliance for Care (GAC) General Meeting, which took place on August 14, 2025, in Mexico

Utibe-Abasi Orok Bassey-Duke, Special Assistant to the Governor on Gender Mainstreaming, proudly represented Cross River State, Nigeria, at the Global Alliance for Care (GAC) General Meeting,

The meeting was held at the Care Pavilion of the Alliance Mexico City. The event brought together GAC members from across the world to review progress, strengthen partnerships, and chart a transformative path forward for the global care agenda.

The day’s official agenda included:

1. Welcome by the Chairperson and the Management Committee Opening remarks set a collaborative and visionary tone for the meeting.
2. Approval of the Agenda Members confirmed the agenda’s focus on advancing care work as a global priority.
3. Activities of the Alliance 2024–2025: The Technical Secretariat reported on achievements over the past year, including advocacy campaigns, knowledge exchanges, and policy initiatives promoting equitable care systems.
4. Approval of the Final Document of the GAC Work Plan 2025–2027: Members reached consensus on adopting the new work plan, which centers on the feminization, territorialization, and intersectionalization of care, while promoting justice, rights, and autonomy.
5. Activities for the “International Day of Care and Support” and Other Key Dates in 2025: Upcoming advocacy events were outlined, with emphasis on global awareness and action for inclusive care economies.
6. Other Matters: Members exchanged additional ideas to strengthen the Alliance’s influence and outreach.

Speaking after the meeting, Ms. Bassey-Duke expressed pride in representing Cross River State in such a critical international platform:

“Being part of this global conversation is an opportunity to ensure that the realities of our communities, especially in Cross River State, are reflected in global care policies. The 2025–2027 Work Plan gives us a powerful roadmap to advocate for fairer and more inclusive care systems.”

The Global Alliance for Care serves as a key platform for countries, organizations, and advocates to collaborate on shaping policies and initiatives that recognize and value care work as essential to sustainable development.

With the new Work Plan in place, members including Cross River State are committed to implementing strategies that will strengthen care systems, uphold rights, and advance gender equality globally.
