Who Will Tell Dan Obo? — Friday Awade Raises Concerns Over Loyalty and Value

Written by calabarGist

A trending video has drawn public attention following comments made by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Media Advocacy, Mr. Friday Awade, questioning the political positioning and loyalty of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Mobilization, Comrade Dan Obo Jnr.

In the video, Awade reacts to what he describes as Dan Obo’s unwavering loyalty and commitment to Honourable Oden Ewa, despite what he believes is a lack of commensurate reward or recognition for the energy and effort invested.

Awade stated that Dan Obo needs to seriously rethink his current political alignment, arguing that “where he is, there is no value.” He further alleged that the popular political group known as the Caucus has suffered stagnation due to Dan Obo’s failure to actively speak up for the group.

According to Awade, Dan Obo has not provided effective leadership for the Caucus, especially if members cannot confidently attest to visits and engagements that fail to translate into fulfilled commitments. He stressed that leadership must be measured not just by presence but by results and accountability.

While reflecting on the recently concluded Oden Ewa tour, Awade acknowledged seeing Dan Obo actively leading movements during the exercise. He also noted that, as a close associate of Dan Obo, he observed that a significant number of youths who ensured the success of the tour activities were drawn from the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) structure during Dan Obo’s tenure.

In his concluding remarks, Awade suggested that if he were in Dan Obo’s position, he would “go back to his roots,” clarifying that this was not a call to return to former political alignments such as Eteng Jones. Rather, he emphasized that Dan Obo would understand what he meant by reconnecting with the foundation where his political journey began, especially if there is no positive change within the Caucus despite ongoing assurances of support.

The video has since generated widespread debate among political stakeholders and youth groups across Cross River State, with many interpreting Awade’s comments as a broader call for reflection, accountability, and strategic realignment within the state’s political youth leadership.
