Students of Cross River State origin studying at the University of Jos have raised alarm following an urgent directive by the institution’s management ordering students to vacate the school premises amid rising security threats linked to suspected bandit activities in Plateau State.
According to reports gathered, over 60 Cross Riverian students cutting across the Northern, Central, and Southern senatorial districts of Cross River State are currently stranded, with no coordinated evacuation plan in place to return them safely home.
The affected students have expressed deep concern over their safety, calling on the Cross River State Government to urgently intervene by providing secure transportation and adequate security escort to facilitate their safe return.
“We are appealing to the government to come to our aid. Other states have already begun evacuating their students, but we are still here, uncertain and exposed,” one of the stranded students lamented.
Findings indicate that while several state governments have mobilized resources to evacuate their indigenes from Plateau State, Cross River students are yet to receive any official support, heightening fears and anxiety among them.
As of the time of filing this report, the situation remains tense, with students seeking immediate assistance to avoid being caught in any potential escalation of violence.
Authorities are yet to issue an official response regarding the evacuation of Cross River students from Plateau State.
