There is an ongoing conflict in Erei that has left farms destroyed, crops lost, and community members injured. For weeks, residents have been reporting these attacks and calling for intervention.
So far, the office of the Chairman of Biase Local Government Area, Hon. Edodi Edodi Eyong, has been silent. No visit has been made to the affected communities, no public address has been issued, and no concrete step has been taken to stop the violence or mediate between the parties.
This silence in the face of a security threat shows a failure to protect the people who elected the Chairman into office. When a leader fails to act on issues that threaten lives and livelihoods, it raises serious questions about competence and commitment to the office.
Agriculture is the backbone of Erei. If nothing is done, the continued attacks will worsen poverty and force more people to abandon their farms.
We are calling on Hon. Edodi Edodi Eyong to act immediately. The people of Biase deserve a Chairman who shows up, takes responsibility, and puts the safety of the people above silence and inaction.
