The Cross River State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has intensified efforts to improve the state’s transportation network with a comprehensive inspection of the Aya Bridge along the Obudu–Bekwarra Road and other critical road infrastructure across the Northern Senatorial District.
Led by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Pius Edet, the inspection team included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Paul Bepeh, alongside a team of experienced engineers who carried out an on-the-spot technical assessment of the bridge and surrounding road infrastructure.
The inspection forms part of the Cross River State Government’s commitment to delivering durable and sustainable infrastructure under the “People First” agenda of Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu. The administration continues to prioritize projects that enhance connectivity, stimulate economic activities, and improve the quality of life for residents across the state.

During the inspection of Aya Bridge, engineers identified critical sections requiring immediate attention. Following the assessment, the Ministry made key technical recommendations and directed that the affected areas receive urgent intervention to prevent further deterioration.
The proposed rehabilitation is expected to improve road safety, facilitate the movement of commuters, and support farmers and businesses that rely heavily on the Obudu–Bekwarra corridor for transporting agricultural produce and goods.
The inspection also covered other strategic road infrastructure across the Northern Senatorial District, reaffirming the government’s resolve to maintain and upgrade essential transportation assets throughout Cross River State.
The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure emphasized that investing in reliable road infrastructure remains central to the state’s economic development strategy, ensuring communities remain connected while attracting investment and promoting commerce.
Under the leadership of Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Cross River State continues to pursue transformative infrastructure projects aimed at building a safer, more accessible, and economically prosperous future for all residents.
