Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has donated five operational vehicles, popularly known as “Green Marias,” to the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve correctional operations across the state.
The vehicles were officially presented on Wednesday at the Government House in Asaba by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, who represented Governor Oborevwori at the ceremony.
Speaking during the presentation, Onyeme said the donation reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to supporting security agencies and enhancing the criminal justice system in Delta State. He noted that ensuring security remains a key priority of the state government.
According to him, the newly donated vehicles will improve the mobility of correctional personnel, facilitate the safe movement of inmates to and from courts and correctional facilities, enhance emergency response, and strengthen monitoring and coordination of correctional operations across the state.
The deputy governor reaffirmed the government’s readiness to continue collaborating with security agencies by providing the necessary logistics and operational support needed to safeguard lives and property.
Officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service expressed appreciation to the Delta State Government for the gesture, describing the donation as timely and significant in addressing operational challenges faced by the command.
The donation forms part of the Oborevwori administration’s broader efforts to improve security infrastructure and support law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and public safety throughout Delta State.
