Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has condemned the latest attack on the Efeyi community in Ugboju District of Otukpo Local Government Area, describing the incident as tragic and unacceptable.
The attack, which reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, was allegedly carried out by suspected armed herders, leaving residents devastated and raising fresh concerns over insecurity in the area.
Reacting to the incident, Governor Alia expressed deep sympathy to the affected families and the entire Efeyi community, assuring residents that those responsible for the attack would not escape justice.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor vowed that the perpetrators would be identified and made to answer for their actions.
Governor Alia also commended the Benue State Police Command and other security agencies for their swift response, which led to the killing of two suspected attackers believed to have participated in the assault.
He urged security operatives to sustain ongoing efforts to protect lives and property across the state while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to restoring peace in communities affected by violent attacks.
The governor further appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information, and avoid taking the law into their own hands as investigations continue.
