First Bank of Nigeria Ltd. has strengthened its support for women-led businesses with the launch of the Spark A Gem Challenge, a new initiative that awarded a total of ₦10 million in grants to outstanding female entrepreneurs across Nigeria.
The initiative, unveiled by the bank, forms part of its Women Preneur Pitch-A-Ton programme and FirstGem proposition, both designed to promote financial inclusion and empower women to build sustainable businesses.
According to a statement issued by the bank in Lagos on Sunday, the Spark A Gem Challenge offers more than financial support. Participants also benefit from business training, mentorship, networking opportunities and access to resources aimed at helping them expand their enterprises.
The bank disclosed that the competition attracted 356 applications from women-owned businesses operating in key sectors of the economy, including agriculture, education, healthcare, food services and other industries.
FirstBank said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to supporting female entrepreneurs by equipping them with the skills, knowledge and funding needed to grow successful businesses and contribute to Nigeria’s economic development.
Through programmes such as the Women Preneur Pitch-A-Ton and FirstGem, the bank continues to create opportunities for women to overcome business challenges, improve access to finance and scale their ventures for long-term success.
