Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave of absence after receiving approval from President Bola Tinubu, marking his first official vacation since the administration assumed office on May 29, 2023.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha.
According to the statement, the Vice President will dedicate the break to study, reflection, and intellectual renewal as part of efforts to enhance his capacity for effective national service.
Nkwocha explained that the leave will provide Shettima with time to assess the progress of the Federal Government’s ongoing programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for the responsibilities ahead.
The statement added that the period of reflection is aimed at equipping the Vice President with fresh perspectives as the Tinubu administration intensifies the implementation of its Renewed Hope Agenda.
Since assuming office alongside President Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023, Shettima has represented the President at several international engagements, chaired key government meetings, and played a prominent role in driving policy initiatives across different sectors.
The Presidency did not indicate any changes to the functioning of government during the Vice President’s absence, as official activities are expected to continue uninterrupted.
