A youth-focused non-profit organisation, Shaping African Women in STEM (SWIS Africa), has unveiled a new digital innovation and mentorship hub aimed at increasing the participation of young women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) across Nigeria.
The initiative, known as the SWIS Hub, is a year-long programme designed to equip female participants with practical digital skills, mentorship opportunities and career guidance in emerging technology fields.
Speaking on the project, the Executive Director of SWIS Africa, Samuel Ogunsola, said the hub would provide hands-on training in high-demand areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and data science, helping young women build the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy.
According to a statement made available in Ado Ekiti on Friday, the programme will officially begin with its first Pop-Up Innovation Lab in Lagos, scheduled to hold on Friday and Saturday, August 7 and 8, 2026.
Ogunsola noted that beyond technical training, the initiative will connect participants with experienced mentors, encourage innovation and strengthen women’s representation in STEM-related careers, where they have traditionally been underrepresented.
He expressed confidence that the programme would inspire more young women to pursue careers in technology while contributing to Nigeria’s growing digital workforce and innovation ecosystem.
