Tinubu Makes Major Move on Ibom Deep Seaport as Akwa Ibom Awaits Economic Boost

Written by Mary Bassey

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly approved the Ibom Deep Seaport project in Akwa Ibom State, raising fresh hopes for the long-awaited maritime development.

The project is expected to strengthen the state’s position as a major maritime and commercial hub, while creating opportunities for employment, investment and economic growth.

The development is expected to be a major boost to Akwa Ibom’s economy, particularly in maritime transportation, international trade, logistics and industrial activities.

The proposed seaport is designed to accommodate large vessels and serve as a transshipment hub for Nigeria and other countries in West and Central Africa. It is also expected to attract local and foreign investors when fully developed.

The Ibom Deep Seaport has been a long-standing development ambition of Akwa Ibom State, with previous Federal Government approvals and project preparations already recorded. The state’s project website lists the development as being at the Full Business Case and procurement stage.
