Sixteen-year-old Nadia Zakaria, daughter of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has completed and handed over an orphanage home in Etahi Community, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The facility, which was built and equipped to provide support and shelter for children in need, was commissioned on Sunday amid celebrations attended by community members, religious leaders, children and other well-wishers.
Nadia began the project at the age of 15, making it a remarkable initiative for a teenager. The project was funded through donations and support mobilised from her family, friends and members of the public.
The development was disclosed on Monday in a statement issued by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s media aide, Mike Idoko.
According to the statement, Nadia’s decision to establish the home was driven by her desire to provide care and support for vulnerable children.
The completed facility was formally handed over to the community following its commissioning, marking the beginning of what is expected to be a safe and supportive environment for children who require care.
The project has also drawn attention to the growing role of young people in community development and charitable initiatives, particularly through efforts that address the needs of vulnerable members of society.
Nadia’s initiative has been widely described as an example of youth-led philanthropy, with the project moving from an idea she conceived at 15 to a completed facility within a year.
