Ibom Air Takes Another Step as Eno Highlights Airline’s Expansion
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has described the arrival of a new Airbus A220-300 aircraft for Ibom Air as another major step in the state’s efforts to expand its aviation sector.
Eno spoke on Thursday at the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo after returning from international engagements, where he welcomed the newly delivered aircraft.
The governor said the latest addition demonstrates the consistency of his administration’s investment in Ibom Air and its broader plan to develop Akwa Ibom into a major aviation hub.
The new Airbus A220-300 is the third Airbus A220-300 aircraft in Ibom Air’s current delivery series. It is also the second A220 received under the airline’s firm order for 10 Airbus A220 aircraft placed in 2021.
According to Eno, the growth of Ibom Air goes beyond the acquisition of aircraft, as the state is also working to strengthen the infrastructure and facilities needed to support a growing aviation industry.
He announced plans for the construction of an Aviation Village near the Victor Attah International Airport to provide accommodation and other facilities for aviation workers.
The proposed development is expected to include housing, schools, healthcare facilities and other amenities, as the state works towards extending airport operations to 24 hours.
Eno also said work was ongoing to complete the Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility and the new international terminal at the airport.
He said the state government’s investment in aviation is aimed at improving connectivity, supporting tourism and creating more economic opportunities for Akwa Ibom.
Ibom Air Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Captain Mfon Udom, said the new aircraft would improve the airline’s flight schedule and operational efficiency.
He added that Ibom Air plans to introduce two additional destinations later in the year, while the new aircraft will also strengthen services on existing routes.
The governor described Ibom Air as one of the state’s major achievements and said his administration would continue supporting its growth and expansion.
The latest development comes as the airline continues its fleet-modernisation programme, with more Airbus A220-300 aircraft expected under its existing order.
